Who we are

SoberMedia™ is the data controller for personal data processed through the SoberGPS app and website. You can reach us at privacy@sobergps.com.

What we collect and why

  • Account data (email, display name, login credentials) — to create and secure your account. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
  • Content you submit (reviews, ratings, photos, venue and event submissions) — to publish and moderate community content. Legal basis: contract and our legitimate interest in running a safe community.
  • Approximate location — only when you grant permission, to show nearby places. Legal basis: consent, withdrawable in your device settings.
  • Usage and device data (pages viewed, device type, IP address, error logs) — for security, fraud prevention, and improving the product. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
  • Support messages — to answer your questions. Legal basis: legitimate interests.

We do not collect or store your payment card details. Payment data is handled by Paddle as Merchant of Record.

Who we share data with

  • Service providers and subprocessors: hosting, database, storage, and error monitoring.
  • Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record, for the sale of subscriptions, billing, tax compliance, invoicing, and subscription management.
  • Map and geocoding providers, to display maps and place locations.
  • Professional advisers (legal, accounting) where necessary.
  • Authorities where we are required to do so by law.

We do not sell your personal data.

Retention

We keep account data for as long as your account is active and for a limited period afterwards to meet legal, tax, and dispute-resolution obligations. Public content you posted may remain visible unless you delete it or ask us to. Data no longer needed is deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email privacy@sobergps.com and we will respond within one month. If you are in the UK or EEA you may also complain to your local supervisory authority.

International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or EEA we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit, row-level access controls on our database, and restricted administrative access. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to notify you where legally required.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences such as your saved location. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, though parts of the app may stop working.

Children

SoberGPS is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this notice. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email before they take effect.
